6 Signs of Suspension Trouble
A healthy suspension not only helps to provide you with smoother driving, it also works to keep your cruising along safely. If your car has shocks/struts that are shot, it can take some 20% more time to come to a complete stop after you've started braking. Here's a look at six signs that you need suspension repair.
"Nose Diving" Sensation
In vehicles that have worn-out shocks, it might seem like you're lurching forward at a downward angle when you apply pressure to the brakes.
Smooth Road Feels Bumpy
If it's obvious to you that the road is paved smoothly, but it feels as if you're driving over bumps, then there could be trouble with your suspension.
Uneven Tire Wear
Worn-out shocks/struts can lead to uneven tire wear, which can then result in bald spots.
So long as you're driving at a safe speed, it shouldn't ever feel like your car is drifting or swaying. If you do get this sensation, then you have reason to be concerned about your suspension.
If you get down and can actually see that oil is leaking out onto your shocks, then there's a good chance that you'll need to get to the shop for replacement.
Can't Pass the Bounce Test
There's a quick and easy test that you can conduct to help determine if your shocks/struts are shot. With your vehicle safely parked, press down on the front end with all of your weight and then rock it a couple of times before releasing. Then, make your way around to the backside of the vehicle and do exactly the same thing on the rear end. Upon letting go, if the vehicle rocks more than two or three times, then it'll likely be worth it to have your shocks/struts checked out.
